WORLD RECORD SET AT 1999 CONTEST....

The 1999 Great Pumpkin Commonwealth site at Altoona Pennsylvania held it's annual event on October 2, and some magical moments were witnessed by the hundreds this day. Situated in the Sam's Club parking lot on Plank Road, hundreds of fruits and vegetables were on display, but the main event drew the most attention, as Gerry Checkon of Spangler, PA not only walked away with the 1000 dollar first prize in the pumpkin category, but also is now known as, "WORLD RECORD HOLDER - LARGEST PUMPKIN EVER GROWN".

Second place was captured by Mark Patrick of Kyler, PA with a beuatifully colored and shaped 947.5 mammoth. Third place was awarded to Steven Pachucki of Wilkes Barre with a 742 pound monster. Fourth went to Tony Ciliberto of Wilkes Barre PA, with his 714.6 AG. Steven and Tony represented the northern Pennsy growers well this year, as Wilkes Barre is nestled up into the northeastern corner of Pennsylvania.
